SLR Camera Lenses...

Many photographers believe that SLR camera lenses are the best on offer and love to take pictures with them, and they have several different lenses for different types of shot. The key point is deciding which SLR lens you need, and this largely depends on the kind of pictures you want to be able to take with your new purchase.

For example, if you spend a lot of time watching sports, especially things like baseball and football where you may be sat back from the action, a normal lens isn't going to produce the standard of pictures you would be hoping for. In this case you really need to consider investing in a telephoto SLR lens, as these are specially designed to cope with a big zoom range and still produce crystal clear images that capture the action perfectly. If you spend most of the time taking pictures inside the home and want mostly people shots with the occasional out in the garden shot of the flowers in the garden, then you are better off sticking with a standard SLR lens as this is perfect for every day type photography where the subject is not far away from you, and you just want to capture that perfect moment and preserve it forever. However, if you are going to be doing a lot of family portrait work or wanting to get some shots of the great outdoors that really capture the seasons with the autumn leaves or the summer sunset, then you really need to consider investing in a wide angle lens as this gives you a much bigger shooting area and creates lovely portraits of landscape photos that you really will love.

As with all things the prices of SLR lenses do vary, but it is well worth looking around and getting a good deal as you really will enjoy the pictures that can be produced with a good quality lens such as the SLR range of lenses. Once you have decided what type of lens you are looking for, you then need to decide whether you are going to purchase a zoom lens or a prime lens and understand which does what so that you get the best lens for you. A zoom lens sounds fairly self explanatory, and you would be right in thinking that this means you can zoom the lens in or out to get the shot you want, which is ideal for taking pictures from one place, whereas a prime lens is the opposite. It does not have any form of zoom and you need to be able to stand in the right place to get the photo you want. A prime lens has the distinct advantage of being cheaper to purchase than a zoom lens, and because it doesn't have the internal mechanisms needed to zoom it is also a lighter option that is easier to lug around with you, but will not be suitable if you cannot get near to your subject. When zooming you need to be more careful with the shot as it is easier to end up with camera shake or distortion than with a prime lens.
